DAY 2: THE NEXT GENERATION TAKES THE LEAD AT THE 43RD ST. MAARTEN HEINEKEN REGATTA

DAY 2 ST. MAARTEN HEINEKEN REGATTA

At the second day of the Heineken Regatta, the race has been in full motion. Most sailors had crossed over to the French side. Not only was there happening a lot on the water, but on land as well. The Heineken Regatta Village at Port de Plaisance around Simpson Bay was also open and crowded with visitors, racers and spectators.

One item which had some questions around the topic was when the famous “around the island race” was going to take place. But, PRO Mark Townsend had decided that the “around the island race” should take place on Saturday, because then would be the most favorable wind. Visitors gathered at the top of Fort Luis to watch the race, located above Marigot, the capitol of French Saint Martin.

Participating teams and their sailors talk about their experiences of the second day. Almost every team had some struggles during the race, but overall every team was really happy with their overall performances and how they handled their obstacles they faced along the way. What makes the Heineken Regatta race so interesting, is that every team and sailors all have their own and unique stories. The teams are coming from over 25 countries. What was also noticeable, is that there are a lot of young teams, who are doing really well in the race. For example the youth team of Pamala Baldwin on the boat J-122. Eventually ILovePoland has won, Wind Whisper finished second and Ambersail2 third.

After the racing day had ended, everyone gathered at the Heineken Regatta Village where well-deserved cold beverages and good food was being enjoyed under great music from various DJ’s. The party continued at one of the Greenzones of the Sint Maarten Heineken Regatta at Moonbar featuring Walshy Fire (from Major Lazor).
