Philipsburg Boardwalk

One Day St. Maarten Visit Itinerary “Only in Philipsburg”

Every visit to a St. Maarten / St. Martin monument, shop, restaurant and activity provides a unique experience. But you might have chosen one of the above shore excursion types already on another port of call, or booked one for the next, and are looking for out-of-the-box solutions how to spend your day in Philipsburg without too much rush. A slow-paced travel plan below suggests some activities for a day in Philipsburg you are not going to find anywhere else in the Caribbean – let alone at home.

Yoda Awaits

Possibly after a short breakfast at local favorite Chesterfields along your 15 minute strawl to town, embark on something wholly unexpected in a seaside resort getaway. St. Maarten has its own Star Wars exhibit, as designer Nick Maley once chose this island to retire from busy Hollywood. He did not come alone, but brought hundreds of original movie items from the dozens of motion pictures he worked on. The original Star Wars movies being his best known work, it earned him the nickname “that Yoda Guy”. Star Wars fans pay attention: this might be the only place in the world where you can purchase original Star Wars items and souvenirs.

Capital Cabanas

Spaced out? Then it is now time to abuse the unique proximity of Philipsburg to Great Bay Beach for a great lunch. There is no country capital in the world where every house is within 500 meters of a beach. Along the Philipsburg boardwalk, you find a wide array of eateries, contributing to the distinctive feat that St. Maarten allegedly has the most restaurants per square mile in the world.

What you are not going to find in other ports of call, is the opportunity to lunch in a private poolside and beachside cabana. If this sounds as an attractive way to spend your day, lay your towel at Seaview hotel and beach bar.

Next door Dutch Blonde Beach Bar offers another way to spend some fun hours that other ports of call won’t offer. Four professional escape rooms provide a great group puzzle challenge.

A toast to Pelikaan Beer

Complete Overview Of Craft Beer Culture

Both Seaview and Dutch Blonde Beach Bar hold an additional mini-excursion option in between of them: a small but comprehensive St. Maarten craft beer crawl! Dutch Blonde pours its Caribbean Brewery beers; Seaview does the same with home brew Pelikaan and SXM Beers. Try to find any location in the world where all local hop products flow from the draft within crawling distance from one another. Speaking about crawling distance: no need to brace yourself in beer consumption as the cruise port is within a 20 minute walk from here. Taxis are available next to these two beach clubs at the courthouse.

Above itinerary is intended to be easy and compact – all activities are within 500 meters from one another, and close by the cruise port. If you want a more fast paced visit, consider our active Philipsburg itinerary or other day plans around town or beyond or create your own journey by choosing additional island activities.
