Framing the Future: Travel, Business & Island Life with Krystal Wanga (Strategic Elements & Caribbean Window Covering)

Todays islander interview is with Krystal Wanga, Managing Director of Caribbean Window Covering and Founder of HR & Management consulting company,  Strategic Elements.

Two wholly distinct companies at first sight, but not in mission. “Both companies reflect a passion for quality, growth, and service – whether through custom window solutions or strategic HR and leadership support. I am proud to contribute to the business landscape of St. Maarten with meaningful and lasting impact.”

Managing two companies at the same time also brings variety in Krystal’s working days. “Every day brings something different – whether guiding a team through a leadership session or seeing a space completely transformed after new blinds are installed. I love the mix of creativity, people, and results.”

Creativity also means self-reinvention. “Strategic Elements recently hosted a leadership program together with Carpe Vita. At Caribbean Window Covering, we recently opened our new showroom in Cole Bay after being in business for the past 9 years, featuring motorized options, sustainable designs, and stylish upgrades – proudly serving both residential and commercial clients.”

Krystal’s St. Maarten Wanderings

For her, beloved island areas are too numerous to name. If any stick out above the many others, it is the various lookout spots across the island. “They always give a fresh view and appreciation for the natural beauty and diversity of the island.

The Philipsburg cultural center also brings back warm memories. “Watching my daughter dance in her first dance performance was a moment I still cherish today. The dance school itself reflects the true island spirit – diverse, warm, and multicultural.”

When it’s time to unwind, Krystal heads to Mullet Bay. “Clean water, perfect waves at times, and always a great vibe – it’s perfect for locals and visitors alike.”

Bistro Caribe in Grand Case is her favorite restaurant to go out for dinner. “Fresh and good food, beautiful setting, and consistently excellent service.” For a drink, she would head over to Ocean Lounge at Holland House Beach Hotel in Philipsburg. “The Espresso Martini at Ocean Lounge is simply unmatched – smooth, bold, and best savored with an ocean view.

Local artists and muralists are interesting to explore on island. Vast new mural routes have seen the light throughout the island, but they would deserve even more attention. “They quietly make big contributions to the culture and visual identity of the island, yet many remain under-recognized.”

If it pertains to lodgings on island holidays, Divi Little Bay Beach Resort is her hotel of choice. “A beautiful setting on a nice peninsula, a comfortable atmosphere, and when you are there you get the feeling that you are far enough from daily routine to feel like a break.”

Krystal‘s Suggested St. Maarten Visitor Itinerary

What St. Maarten activity should be part and parcel of any visitor day plan to St. Maarten? “A boat trip around the island. Nothing beats seeing both sides from the water – pure beauty and a unique perspective of St. Maarten/St. Martin.”

Fort Amsterdam is also a must-see according to Krystal. “A place rich in history and culture, with one of the best panoramic views on island.” The March St. Maarten Heineken Regatta is a recommended event to experience the island to the outmost. “It brings an international flair to the island – world-class sailing, live music, and a great atmosphere that blends locals and visitors in one big celebration.”

For a bite and relaxation moment, she advises Top Carrot. “Great food, a nice selection of books, and lovely gifts. I always leave inspired.”

Strengths of St. Maarten Beyond Tourism

For Krystal, there is much more to the island than meets the eye. “There is a strong and vibrant community beyond the tourist side. Allot of talent, innovation, and potential across industries and generations.”

In her entrepreneurial eyes, island business opportunities are many for those in pursuit of their dream. “For anyone with vision and drive, St. Maarten offers room to grow and create something meaningful.”

That also counts when things are down. “Resilience is also a forte. The ability to rebuild and keep going no matter the setback. That energy is felt island wide.”
