SUCCESFUL SAILING SEASONS CONCLUDED

Last Friday June 16th, the Sint Maarten yacht Club Sailing School concluded its season. The four primary schools that were taking part in the season this year were Sister Regina Primary School, Seventh Day Adventist Primary School, Leonard Connor Primary School, and the All Children Educate Foundation. The Youth Brigade was also a part of the program. There were a total of 48 students.

Sam Peeks, sailing instructor at the SMYC, said that the kids made a lot of progress. In the beginning the kids were very anxious to sail and swim, but now everyone is very confident. As extra assistance in the sailing program, children could also sign up for Swim 2 Sail, to help them learn better how to swim before sailing. Last week, all the students were handed out their sailing diploma under company of proud audience consisting of family, friends and SMYC staff.

The SMYC youth sailing program continues to grow, in previous years there were only 2 schools involved, now there are four primary schools participating. This is all made possible by R4CR. The R4CR program is financed by the Government of the Netherlands via the Sint Maarten Trust Fund. The sailing school is proud to announce that it will continue their growth.
