THE DAILY HERALD: OVERWHELMING RESPONSE TO TOTAL THEATRE PROGRAMME

NIA’S TOTAL THEATRE PROGRAMME

The National Institute of Arts (NIA) is running a social-emotional skills program called “Total Theatre” through the performing arts. They have received an overwhelming response since its launch three months ago.

The program offers classes for different age groups, focusing on various aspects such as vocals, drama, yoga, movement, improvisation, and art-and-stage crafts. It also includes coaching sessions with a licensed psychologist. The program aims to provide a playful and safe environment for participants to develop important skills like critical thinking, flexibility, curiosity, and problem-solving. NIA offers the program free of charge to make it accessible to all children and youth on St. Maarten, especially those affected by Hurricane Irma and the pandemic.

The program is funded by Resources for Community Resilience R4CR, which is supported by the government of the Netherlands through the St. Maarten Trust Fund.
