Beaches from a Brown Pelican’s Bird’s Eye View – Interview with Sabine Berger (ShowMeCaribbean)
In todays interview with companies active in the St. Maarten world of tourism, meet Sabine Berger of Show Me Caribbean. This St. Maarten / Curacaolean company is the creator of the manually steered webcams at Maho Beach, Philipsburg and Simpson Bay Resort. In their first years, the cameras jointly received 5 million “visitors” to the island already.
Bringing the Caribbean to the world is not just the company’s goal, it is also the Bergers personal driver. “I’m passionate about showing the Caribbean to the world. I love making people happy as they explore the Caribbean through our VR tours and live webcams, even if they can’t physically visit.”
As a former designer, Sabine’s passion for visual arts also goes well beyond working hours. “My work isn’t just a job; it’s my passion, consuming my time seven days a week. I love giving back through volunteer work in my field.” But time for other Caribbean hobbies remains too: “Waterskiing has also been a lifelong hobby, one I even turned into a profession as a Club Med instructor.”
St. Maarten from a Birds Eye View
It is no surprise that many of her favorite spots on island are elevated ones with great views.
The islands highest peak Pic Paradis is an example, or Fort Amsterdam. “The fort brings a variety of views together in one drone shot. The historical fort, pelicans making their way to catch fish all day, gorgeous Little Bay Beach and Great Bay Beach, massive cruise ships in port and of course views of capital Philipsburg”.

That does not mean there is nothing to see down below. “Mullet Bay and Cupecoy beaches are beautiful and great for swimming”. Grand Case Beach is also a regular place where the crews of “ShowMe” can be seen without their high tech equipment. Le Temps de Cerises is a favorite place to wind down from an active day of shooting footage, an amazing little hidden gem restaurant. Grand Case off-time is also her moment to explore island shops.
Guavaberry rum is the team’s favorite drink. When it pertains to an island event visitors should highlight in their agenda according to the visual artist, it would be the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. “An impressive event with great atmosphere and good entertainment.”
For staying over, her hotel of choice is Simpson Bay Resort. “I feel on holidays at this resort. It has great views of Simpson Bay, the lagoon and there is so much to do in this resort area.”
Fascination for Aviation
Being a drone pilot on St. Maarten / St. Martin is not always as easy as you might think. You have to respect not one, but two airports on island. That brings restrictions for drones on many spots. It is not for nothing Show Me Caribbean’s first high tech webcam was placed at the famous Maho Beach where the airplanes land and depart, in a strategic partnership with acclaimed Tortuga Maho Bar & Restaurant.
As much of an adrenaline the beach might be for others, for Berger it has the opposite effect of relaxation. “There is always something to see. Too many tourists, regardless of the many signs around, underestimate the power of the jet blasts. Time and time again, you see them tossed into the sea – or their belongings!”. Then, there is the special planes. “Whether it is private jets of celebrities visiting the island or even private boeings bringing sheiks and princesses, or small twin otters just making their turn right in front of the runway”.
From Planes to People
In general, St. Maarten / St. Martin beaches, its restaurants and “fun vibe” are key attractions she would recommend to anyone.
But there is way more to the island for Berger. Her great memories of the island are too numerous to mention. “What it is people should know about the island that they might not always realize, is the friendliness of the people. The old motto “The Friendly Island” is still a great feature in today’s time and age”.
