If you want to go on an island discovery tour away from the masses, some suggestions:
Take a hike! The EPIC foundation as well as the history museum have laid out various walking routes through St. Maarten / Saint Martin’s nature. More recently, the Bethechange Foundation created a walking route along Philipsburg murals created by local artists.
The relatively new Amuseum Naturalis of the Fruits de Mer foundation gives a great insight of St. Maarten history and nature, including exhibitions.
The same for the Heritage Museum in Philipsburg!
Visit the old salt mill, a remnant of Sint Maarten’s salt economy of once.
Stroll or drive up Pic Paradis, the highest peak of the island. A great way to end your hike is to take a cocktail at Loterie Farm.
Pick your private beach at Lovers Beach or Happy Bay!
Spend a day on an uninhabited island like Tintamarre.
Or simply take expert advice by going where the locals go!
