Carnival singing competition, Senior Carnival Calypso Monarch

THE DAILY HERALD: MIGHTY DOW CROWNED SENIOR CARNIVAL CALYPSO MONARCH

THE BIG CARNIVAL SINGING COMPETITION

Last week, ten finalists battelled against each other in the Senior Carnival Calypso competition. After a fierce battle, Isidore ‘Mighty Dow’ York won the competition. His two winning songs were ‘We need more Wife’ and ‘Questions’.

Dow gave a performance that had the crowd roaring with laughter. His opening act “We need more wife” showcased two men being caught in a risky situation and the use of props and creativity within his storytelling contributed to him becoming this year’s Calypso Monarch.

Other performances also included a lot of creativity in their acts. There were a lot of deeper meanings to the performances, for example; economic hardships, a need for change within the country, calls for unity and taking patrons back to the good old days.
