FAXINFO: ENTRY FORMALITIES FOR FOREIGN TOURISTS AT SXM AND ST. BARTH – WHAT TOURISM PROFESSIONALS NEED TO KNOW

The delegated prefect of the Northern Islands, Vincent Berton, has issued important guidelines for the upcoming tourist season in Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin (French part). Here are the key points:

• Some foreign tourists may be exempt from visas based on nationality and other criteria. Visitors can use the “Do I need a visa?” tool on the official France Visas website to check their visa requirements. Detailed regulations on visa exemptions can be found in the ministerial decree of April 18, 2012.

• When a visa is required, tourists must apply for it online on the France Visas website before their departure. No tourist visas will be issued on-site, so it’s crucial for foreign clients to complete their visa procedures well in advance of their trip.

• “Schengen” short-stay visas from states other than France are not valid in Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin. Only national visas with specific designations are accepted for entry.

• Travelers entering Saint Martin through Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) must also adhere to entry rules for the Dutch part of Sint Maarten. These rules can be found on the government of the Netherlands’ website and the Ministry of Justice of Sint Maarten’s website

To ensure a smooth welcome for foreign visitors and prevent any issues upon departure, hoteliers and accommodation providers are advised to check and inform their guests about entry conditions well in advance of their stay.
