The Brussels Times reports that Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot made an unplanned landing on St. Maarten’s airport on Sunday.
Mr. Prévot and other delegates were en route to the CELAC-EU Summit in Colombia when their aircraft encountered issues and made a precautionary landing at Princess Juliana International Airport.
The Belgian government aircraft now joins a WestJet plane that also remains on the airport grounds after a recent technical issue.
All passengers from both flights are safe, and we wish the Minister an enjoyable—if unexpected—stay on the island.
The situation has also provided aviation enthusiasts with rare views of the Belgian aircraft, especially those watching via the popular Maho Beach webcam channel, followed daily by thousands of global aviation fans.
There was another special ‘guest’ welcomed at the airport over the weekend as well. On Sunday November 9th a Boeing 747 landed, a type of aircraft which is rarely on St. Maarten.
