St. Maarten / St. Martin One Day Cruise Visit Itinerary – Quiet Mullet Bay Beach Day & Maho Landings (by Bus)

Mixing Quiet Mullet Bay with Boeing Blasts

If you want to have a quiet beach day on St. Maarten during your cruise voyage, there is a lot of beaches to choose from.

Mullet Bay Beach was once part of the largest resort of the northeastern Caribbean. Though all that is left from this vast complex is a golf course and mangrove forests, the beach continues to receive honorable mentions and accolades in international listings.

Below is a day plan built around a quiet beach day at this beach that ranks amongst St. Maarten / St. Martins most famous beaches, but the most tranquil one of the five. To make it a double hop beach day with some adrenaline, we suggest to combine your Mullet Bay day with a visit to must-see Maho Beach right around the corner.

Morning Bus to Maho / Cupecoy

The St. Maarten cruise port is close to the Emmaplein bus stop where all bus lines on the Dutch side of the island start and stop. Every 10 minutes a minivan bus to Maho / Cupecoy passes by. Raise your hand to join in for a 30 minute ride. Verify if the bus driver continues to Cupecoy, if so remain on board until you see the Golf Course. If the bus stops at Maho, walk the last 5 minutes through the Maho Village to Mullet Bay Beach.

Lay your towel at this gem of a beach and experience the at times forceful waves hitting this pristine sandy shore.

Tortuga Restaurant for plane spotting

Thrills at Tortuga

After a good morning of sun bathing, head back to the Maho area for lunch. Tortuga Restaurant is strategically, and somewhat hidden, nestled against the beach famous for its landings. Whereas the noise and jet blast does not make the beach a great spot for laying your towel where the airplanes land, here you can! You can also just take a table and see the airplanes come in. Use your lunch to see the Princess Juliana arrivals overview what plane is coming in at what time. Larger airplanes by American, Delta, Air France and KLM provide for the biggest spectacle. Head out of Tortuga some minutes before, shoot a selfie amidst the crowds and get back into the tranquil restaurant environs.

Triple Beach Hop?

Depending when your cruise ship is scheduled to leave, take some hours to head back to make sure you are on time. If back in Philipsburg in a timely manner, see if you can add a third “big beach” to your beach hopping list by taking a swim on Great Bay Beach, next to the Emmaplein bus stop. You are now within a 20 minutes walking distance from the cruise ship. You can also decide to take a taxi on your way to Maho and back. A taxi stand on the far side of Maho beach by Morgan Resort mostly has cabs waiting, as does the stand at Sonesta Maho.

It’s easy to do a beaches combination on St. Maarten, as there are so many to combine! See our other travel plans for more beach hopping journeys and ideas to spend your day, or plan your own cruise visit day.
