One Day Itinerary for St. Maarten Cruise visitors: Hiking & Mural Trail

For great walking trails on St. Maarten, you can remain close to the St. Maarten Cruise port. Natural landmarks, historical monuments and cultural buildings are all within a 30 minute walking distance from Port. St. Maarten. If you love hiking, see below itinerary for a full day of St. Maarten exploration. As the Caribbean sun can be fierce, ensure you always bring a water bottle on your trekking excursions.

Morning: Natural Pool Hike

Either alone or by professional guidance, the Natural Pool is a fantastic trail to see a wholly different side of St. Maarten. Starting right on the other side of the Point Blanche peninsula, the area is a superb spot to see the “Atlantic side of the Caribbean”. Rugged landscapes facing the ocean, special cactuses and nature made pools are part of your route, as are breathtaking views of St. Barths.

Lunch at Local Favorites

When heading back from the Atlantic to the Caribbean again, it is lunch time. Consider local favorites Chesterfields and Aziana for a nourishing stop to gather energy for your next walk. Both have a great view over the Philipsburg Marina, and are a strategic base of departure for your next step(s).

Culture and Arts, Mural art, Philipsburg

Afternoon: Philipsburg & Great Bay Beach

Over the past decade, a variety of artful murals has seen the light of day in Philipsburg alleys.  Local artists were invited to decorate otherwise empty walls throughout the city center. Guided tours are available to explore the mural art; there is also digital support for exploring the contexts behind the various creations. Many murals depict St. Maarten history, culture or even dialect. You will run into monuments and Great Bay Beach along your city walk, so a great opportunity to take a dip in the sea.

As Philipsburg is only a 15 minute walk from the cruise port, you are always close by! If two hikes on one Caribbean day are a bit too much, explore our other cruise friendly activities on island.
