SINT MAARTEN YACHT CLUB: THE FINAL KEELBOAT RACE OF THE 2021-2022 SEASON WAS SAILED IN WINDY AND GUSTY CONDITIONS!

Sint Maarten Yacht Club Held the Final Keelboat Race Of The 2021-2022 Season in Simpson Bay, St Maarten / St Martin

Eleven competitors joined the last Keelboat Race of the 2021-2022 season championship, last Sunday in Simpson Bay.

During the season the competitors sailed in 5 different 1 or 2 day events, which together is registered as the Grant Thornton Keelboat Season Championship.

Last Sunday was the final day. Five boats competed in CSA 1 Class, 2 boats competed in CSA 2 class and 4 multihull Diam 24 Trimarans competed in the Multihull class.

Race Officer Sahil Khatnani started the Multihull class to the cablemarker in Philipsburg and back to Simpson Bay. The flying trimarans had a great upwind beat to Philipsburg, but at the upwind mark one of the boats spectacularly capsized. Assisted by the other trimarans they were able to get the boat upright again. As a fleet, they decided the conditions were a bit too rough and went back into port.
