FAXINFO: GOLF: PRIZE GIVING FOR YOUNG GOLFERS
NEW GENERATION OF ST MAARTEN GOLFERS
Junior Golf SXM, a part of the Sint Maarten Golf Association, has been providing golf opportunities for young people on the island for fifteen years. In 2021, James Park, an active member of the SMGA office, took over the management of Junior Golf SXM. Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, a group of 75 children from various schools, gather at Mullet Bay Golf Course for an hour after school to learn and improve their golf skills.
To celebrate the end of the golfing season, a gala evening was held last Tuesday at the Yacht Club restaurant at Fort Louis Marina in Laura’s. The event, which was organized and privately sponsored by J. Park, recognized the attendance and achievements of the young participants throughout the season. It also served as an award ceremony for the winners of the Junior Golf Open held on May 7 at Mullet Bay.
As a warm-up, the aspiring golfers had the opportunity to answer a few personal questions on the microphone, helping them gain confidence in public speaking. The event concluded with children and parents enjoying drinks and delicious pizzas. James Park’s dedicated volunteer work for the young golfers was greatly appreciated.
Junior Golf SXM invites all schools in both the French and Dutch parts of the island to participate by informing students aged between 8 and 13 about the program.
