Island Highlight: Taking A St. Maarten Sunset Cruise
If anything the Caribbean is famous for next to pristine beaches, it is beautiful sunsets.
A Sunset cruise by catamaran kills many birds with one stone. You see both the Caribbean and its islands from a wholly different perspective during this spectacular play of sunlight and sea. In addition, a boat experience is a fun and different way to travel for all ages.
In case of the varied landscape of St. Maarten, a sunset cruise also allows to see many beaches, skylines and places during your trip that you might not have had time to pay a visit to yet.
Sunset cruises come in a variety of options on St. Maarten / St. Martin. Some key choices to make is where you want to embark, if you want to include a meal to make it a dinner cruise and whether you want to do a regular cruise or a private, chartered excursion.
In general, sunset cruises go via the calm waters of the Caribbean, instead of the at times more choppy Atlantic side. Depending on your point of departure point, they move westbound from the Philipsburg or Simpson Bay area in the direction of the Lowlands.
Sunset Cruises from Philipsburg
From Philipsburg’s Bobby’s Marina, two options for a catamaran cruise at sunset are available:
* Eagle Tours operates a Champagne Sunset Tour of 1.5 hours on Tuesdays. Check-in is at 5pm; departure half an hour later. Next to champagne, other drinks and snacks are available. Music befitting the sunset will also be part of the experience. Its five catamaran fleet can also be chartered for a private setting at sunset.
* Private Yacht Charters (PYC) also operates a chartered sunset cruise service from Philipsburg. Its standard itinerary takes 2.5 hours, and can be customized to your preferences and needs.
* Every last Saturday of the month, Spirit of St Maarten does a Themed Sunset Cruise from the capital that can vary from ” Havana Night with live cigar rollers” to “Arabian Nights”. Food is included in the tour.
Simpson Bay Sunset Cruises
From the popular Simpson Bay resort area, Aqua Mania offers multiple types of sunset cruises from its marina right in front of Simpson Bay Resort:
* On Thursdays and Saturdays it organizes the Lambada Sunset Sail, including drinks and snacks. It takes a twelve mile journey along the southern side of St. Maarten.
* On Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays its catamaran “Tango” sets sail for a Tango Caribbean Dinner cruise. It offers Caribbean bites (and drinks!) alongside beautiful views. Check in starts at 4.45pm; you will return from your sumptuous floating dinner at the Simpson Bay pier at 8.30pm.
