YOUNG TALENT IN THE 43RD. EDITION OF THE ST MAARTEN HEINEKEN REGATTA
From March 2 2023 until March 5 2023, the 43rd. edition of the annual St Maarten Heineken Regatta took place. Students from the St Maarten Youth Club Sailing school also participated in the race. In this article, Jordan Pieterse shares his experiences.
He has been racing a Laser 4.7 at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club for the last four years. Two years ago, he got into small keelboat racing with two of his friends, and competed in the 42nd St. Maarten Heineken Regatta on a Sunfast 20.
He was pretty worried about the light wind forecasted for the Regatta, but it turned out they had nothing to worry about, getting a good 15 to 20 knots throughout the majority of the races. Day two they went racing all the way to Marigot and Plum Rock. It was definitely one of the best moments of the Regatta for Jordan.
The Round the Island course was set for Saturday, when the wind was forecasted to be the strongest. Jordan finished in 6th, placing sixth overall.
