2026 Bird Fest to Feature Birdwatching Tour and Conservation Workshop in St. Maarten
The 2026 Bird Fest will take place in St. Maarten on Saturday, November 21, with a program featuring a guided birdwatching tour and a hands-on workshop focused on bird nesting boxes. The activities will introduce participants to local birdlife while highlighting practical ways to support wildlife and reuse plastic materials.
Morning Birdwatching Tour
The festival begins with a guided birdwatching tour from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Participants will visit different locations around the island to observe local bird species and learn how to identify them.
Binoculars and bird identification cards will be provided, so participants do not need to bring their own equipment. Bus transportation between the birdwatching locations is also included.
Afternoon Workshop at Perpetual Plastics
In the afternoon, the program moves to Perpetual Plastics in Cole Bay. From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, participants can join a workshop to build bird nesting boxes using recycled plastic.
The activity combines creative work with environmental awareness, demonstrating how discarded materials can be repurposed to create potential nesting spaces for birds.
Supporting Bird Conservation in St. Maarten
With its natural areas and diverse birdlife, St. Maarten has an important interest in protecting its local environment. The Brown Pelican, the island’s national bird, is among its recognizable coastal bird species. Activities that encourage residents and visitors to learn about local wildlife can help build awareness of the island’s biodiversity.
Registration and Practical Information
Both activities take place on Saturday, November 21, 2026. Advance registration is required, and places are limited.
