Sint Maarten Yacht Club: A Dream Destination for Sailors
The Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) is a vibrant hub for local sailors and a home away from home for visiting yachtsmen and boating enthusiasts. Whether you’re racing, cruising, or learning to sail, it’s the place to experience the island’s deep connection to the sea.
Located beside the Simpson Bay Bridge, the club’s bar and restaurant — open to the public — offer one of the best vantage points on the island. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a cold drink while watching an impressive parade of mega yachts transiting in and out of Simpson Bay Lagoon. Next to the clubhouse, SMYC’s docks provide the ideal launch point for locals and visitors eager to get on the water and discover what makes sailing here so exceptional.
SMYC’s sailing school promotes watersports through a variety of educational and recreational programs supported by club memberships and local sponsors. Offerings include Sailability, primary and youth sailing classes, adult instruction, private lessons, and the SMYC Race Team, all led by experienced and passionate coaches. Visitors and members can also enjoy free Saturday “try-out” classes, lagoon sailing experiences, Beyond the Bridge boat tours, summer camps for kids, and more.
Throughout the year, SMYC hosts numerous dinghy and keelboat regattas, including the Budget Marine Optimist Championship, La Course de l’Alliance, and the Caribbean Multihull Challenge. But the club’s signature event — and one of the Caribbean’s most iconic — is the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta (heinekenregatta.com).
Now entering its 46th edition, this world-renowned regatta will take place from March 5–8, 2026, bringing together sailors from around the globe for four exhilarating days of competition, camaraderie, and celebration. As the largest regatta in the Caribbean, it’s not only a highlight for racers but a community-wide festival that invites everyone to share in the excitement — both on the water and on shore.
Whether you’re new to sailing or a seasoned racer, there’s something for everyone at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club. Discover more at smyc.com — and come see why, in Sint Maarten, the sea is more than a view; it’s a way of life.
