Where to Celebrate New Year’s Eve on St. Maarten

As the new year approaches, visitors who are new to St. Maarten and spending the final evening of 2025 on the island often ask the same question: Are there fireworks, and where is the best place to see them?

For seasoned St. Maarten visitors, the answer is easy. Great Bay Beach in Philipsburg is the top spot, along with viewpoints across the bay near Fort Amsterdam. Every year, the Port St. Maarten Group of Companies delivers an unforgettable fireworks display launched from the middle of Great Bay, creating a spectacular backdrop over the capital. A reason for many cruise ships to stay the night or leave with a festive farewell.

Adding to the atmosphere, the Philipsburg Boardwalk comes alive with bars, restaurants, and special events. Many venues stay open late, offering drinks, music, and front-row views of the celebrations—perfect for welcoming the new year island-style.

Missed New Year’s Eve? There’s Another One!

If you happen to miss January 1st but are still in the mood to celebrate, St. Maarten has you covered. Much like Carnival, the island celebrates New Year’s Day twice.

On January 9, locals celebrate “Crew Year’s Eve”, a second New Year’s celebration created especially for hospitality workers who spend December 31 serving guests. This unique event takes place around the Simpson Bay Lagoon, and wherever you are in the area, you won’t miss the lively, lagoon-based festivities—something truly unique to St. Maarten.
