For seasoned St. Maarten visitors, the answer is easy. Great Bay Beach in Philipsburg is the top spot, along with viewpoints across the bay near Fort Amsterdam. On January 9, locals celebrate “Crew Year’s Eve”, a second New Year’s celebration created especially for hospitality workers who spend December 31 serving guests. This unique event takes place around the Simpson Bay Lagoon, and wherever you are in the area, you won’t miss the lively, lagoon-based festivities—something truly unique to St. Maarten.
