WORLD STRAY ANIMAL DAY ON APRIL 4TH

FUNDRAISNG FOR STRAY ANIMALS

Every year, World Stray Animal Day is recognized on April 4th. The day was launched in 2010 when over 100 Dutch organizations convened at the Dutch National Stray Animals Conference. The day of April 4 was selected because it is exactly six months from World Animal Day. The four Animal Welfare Groups on the Dutch side – St Maarten Animal Welfare, SXM Paws, Island puppy rescue and Animal Defenders – have joined together to launch a week long campaign to spay and neuter in all Dutch side communities. A visiting vet will perform the operations and it is free, starting March 27th, 2023.

During the week-long event, a fundraising campaign is being initiated to collect funds for the four Animal welfare groups. Nett Ticket proceeds, sale of t-shirts and raffle tickets sold at the premixer, plus the request for guests to bring a bag of dog and cat food along, will provide an awesome boost to the organizations, who rely totally on volunteers and have no government funding. At the end of the week, it is indented to launch a World Stray Animal Sunset sail.
