THE DAILY HERALD: ‘WYLDE SWAN’ FINISHING BUSY CARIBBEAN SEASON

TRAINING THE YOUNGSTERS

 

Caribbean Sail Training Vessel Wylde Swan has been in St. Maarten for some time now, but has left the port of Marigot after a very busy Caribbean season. The vessel will first go Curacao, before passing Cuba and then back to the Netherlands.

 

The Wylde Swan was famous for making 6-week trips from St Maarten to mostly Grenada and some other islands laying south, with mainly young sailors from the Netherlands. With every visit, the youngsters took part in multiple excursions and were also able to go souvenir shopping. Each trip could take up to 35 youngsters.

 

For years the port of Marigot has been the basis of the vessel, providing the ship with fuel, provisions, crew and trainee changes at the Galisbay Pier.
