Ask any frequent St. Maarten visitor about Pineapple Pete’s, and they will know exactly where it is. Chances are, they can also tell you what’s on the menu—or share the story of the first time they met “Pete” (Pierre Ferland) in person, as he has long made a tradition of chatting with his guests.
This informal approach is part of the restaurant’s enduring success. Pineapple Pete’s has always remained unpretentious, focused on its motto, “Great Food, Great Service,” while welcoming everyone. Starting as a small restaurant with a menu blending Caribbean and American flavors, Ferland gradually expanded the property over the years. He also opened the sister restaurant, Wasabi Charlie, next door, creating a true dining destination where guests can order dishes from either menu at the same table.
Live entertainment and dinghy access via the lagoon-side entrance have further contributed to the restaurant’s popularity, making it especially convenient for yacht owners and crews. Its game room, which entertains children of all ages, has also helped establish Pineapple Pete’s as a favorite family gathering spot.
Pierre Ferland has also been recognized for his contributions to the community. In 2020, the Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle presented him with its Vocational Service Award, an annual honor recognizing individuals who demonstrate outstanding service through their profession. Ferland is affectionately known by the nickname “Head Pineapple.”
The menu at Pineapple Pete’s is exceptionally extensive, offering everything from fresh seafood and burgers to pasta, and salads. Next door, Wasabi Charlie complements the selection with an impressive variety of sushi and sashimi.
The restaurant’s signature dish has long been the Lobster Thermidor. Other house specialties include the Crab-Stuffed Shrimp and the Crab & Spinach-Crusted Grouper, both longtime customer favorites.
Pineapple Pete’s is an ideal starting point for an evening out. Located at the beginning of the famous Simpson Bay Strip along Welfare Road & Airport Road, it serves as a convenient base for exploring the area’s nearly two miles of restaurants, bars, and nightlife stretching west toward the airport.
Its location near the junction with the Pelican resort area also places it within walking distance of accommodations such as Simpson Bay Resort, Atrium Resort, Hilton Grand Vacations, and La Vista Resort.
Because Pineapple Pete’s is located opposite the cinema and Paradise Mall, parking is generally easy to find.
The private jetty at the rear provides convenient access for passengers arriving by yacht or sailboat from IGY Marinas and other nearby docks.
The Philipsburg–Maho/Cupecoy bus also stops directly in front of the restaurant.
True to its relaxed atmosphere, there is no need to dress up when visiting Pineapple Pete’s. Casual attire is perfectly appropriate.
During the busy season from November through May, making a reservation is recommended, although walk-in guests are always welcome. The restaurant can become especially busy during the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, when many sailors are docked in nearby Simpson Bay.
Pineapple Pete’s truly comes alive in the evenings, when live music fills the restaurant and visitors gather to begin or continue their night out.
