Photo Of The Week: Touches of Dutch
Are you in Delft here, or possibly Amsterdam? The Delft Blue porcelain seems to guide us there, and many books about Frisian-Dutch statesman Peter Stuyvesant seems to even point at northern Dutch provinces.
No, you are in the artful “Double Dutch” lunchroom in Philipsburg, St. Maarten. This ensemble connects a bit of the artistry found here, and the unique collection of Stuyvesant books in this cafe, only a mile of where this then governor laid siege to Fort Amsterdam. Note how “Pegleg Pete” is featured on each cover – his wooden leg being an unfortunate remnant of this battle.
