Photo of the Week: A Monumental Porkchop Mural

In the ongoing growth of the number of murals in St. Maarten’s capital , a new piece of art was recently added.

 

A mural honoring local cultural icon “Porkchop” was painted by Sander van Beusekom, a Curaçao-based street artist and co-founder of Blend Creative Imaging.

 

Philipsburg icon Louis “Porkchop” Lambert Richardson earned widespread recognition across the island through his contributions to music, sports, and St. Maarten’s annual Carnival celebrations. During Carnival, he often wore humorous and creative costumes. He was also known for his steelpan and saxophone music, as well as for coaching teams in the little league baseball.

 

All these qualities and more are reflected in the three-story mural, one of the biggest of the now over 40 murals in town. The artwork did not entirely fit in this picture, so you are invited to go see it for yourself. You can find it on near the .
