The History of Festival de la Gastronomie
Since its first edition in 2021, Festival de la Gastronomie has highlighted a different featured ingredient each year. The festival combines this annual theme with culinary events and competitions that recognise restaurants, chefs and other professionals working in the island’s food and beverage industry.
As the festival has grown, its program has introduced new activities, including a BBQ Competition, the Gastronomy Village, Taste of Sunrise, food and cocktail pairings, wine and cheese pairings, Sip & Cook and a street-food competition.
2021: The First Edition and Tamarind
The first Festival de la Gastronomie took place in 2021, with tamarind as its featured ingredient. Chef Marcel Ravin was the patron of the inaugural edition.
The first edition established the foundation for a festival centred on Saint-Martin’s culinary identity, with participating restaurants and awards recognising achievements in different areas of gastronomy.
2022: Plantain Banana
Plantain banana was the featured ingredient for the second edition in 2022, with chef Nicole Sale serving as patron.
The program introduced a BBQ Competition, the Gastronomy Village and four-hands dinners, bringing chefs together for collaborative dining experiences. Restaurant and culinary awards also formed part of the festival.
2023: West Indian Cherry
The third edition highlighted West Indian cherry, known locally as groseille pays, with chef Patrick Jeffroy as patron.
Several new activities appeared in the program, including the Taste of Sunrise Brunch, Food & Cocktail Pairing and Wine & Cheese Pairing. The edition also featured restaurant, mixology and food-truck competitions.
Restaurant Del Arti was named Best Table of Saint-Martin for 2022–2023. The edition also recognised winners in categories including Beach Stars, City Stars, Authentic Stars and Gourmet Stars.
2024: Guavaberry
Guavaberry took centre stage in the fourth edition in 2024, with chef Stéphane Burron serving as patron. Sip & Cook was introduced as a new activity.
The program included culinary workshops, dinners for four hands, a private-chef competition and the festival’s restaurant awards. Les Galets was named Best Table of Saint-Martin for 2024–2025 and won the Gourmet Stars category.
2025: Passion Fruit
The fifth edition in 2025 featured passion fruit, with chef Laurent Huguet as patron. The festival introduced a street-food competition alongside its established culinary activities.
The restaurant competition recognised establishments in several categories, including City Stars, Authentic Stars, Beach Stars and Gourmet Stars. Bona Mama was named Best Table of Saint-Martin for 2025–2026. The program also featured BBQ, mixology and food-truck competitions.
2026: Coconut
For its sixth edition, Festival de la Gastronomie has selected coconut as its featured ingredient, with chef Jimmy Bibrac serving as patron. The main festival runs from November 11 to 22, 2026, with activities including culinary demonstrations, workshops, pairings and special dining events.
