Princess Juliana International Airport held their First Ever Princess Walk on their Runway

Three weeks ago, Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) welcomed a historic moment as its runway transformed into a glowing pink path for the first-ever annual Breast Cancer Awareness Princess Walk. At 4 a.m., before the start of a regular airport day, nearly 400 participants gathered in matching pink shirts to support the Elektralyets Foundation and the Positive Foundation. With buildings, the roundabout, and even the runway illuminated in pink, the event sent a powerful message of awareness across the island and beyond.

Shelly Alphonso of the Positive Foundation expressed similar gratitude and emotion, describing the walk as an unforgettable display of hope, solidarity, and community spirit. As the sun rose over Simpson Bay, families, survivors, supporters, and volunteers walked together with purpose, making it clear how deeply St. Maarten cares about breast cancer awareness. Airport staff also played a vital role, offering their time and dedication to help bring the event to life. Proceeds from the Princess Walk support crucial initiatives, including educational outreach, mammogram funding for uninsured women, and support group programs.
