Today’s St. Maarten Cruise Ship Highlight: Liberty Of The Seas
Impressed by the large cruise vessels visiting the Philipsburg Port daily, and curious for their stories? Every of the cruise ships large and small visiting the island have fun facts about them. Amongst today’s visiting cruise liners is Liberty of the Seas. If you are gazing in amazement all the way from Great Bay Beach, here is some fun things to know about the ship you could not know from a distance.
-
Ice Rink
It might not be exactly what you were looking for in the Caribbean – or instead, you see it as a great way to cool off – but this cruise ship has an ice rink on board. It does not just allow passengers to take up their skates, but it is also host to professional ice skating shows during the journey.
-
Surfing on board
For riding Caribbean waves, you do not need to leave the ship for St. Maarten’s many shore excursions. The “Flow Rider” surf simulator allows you to try surfing on board of a ship. If surfing is a level too high, try boogie boarding.
-
Tidal Wave Slide
The Tidal Wave Slide is another fun and wet innovation that came with the Liberty of the Seas. This boomerang-type waterslide shoots passengers onto a steep wall and back.
-
Outdoor Cinema
A big movie screen makes Liberty of the Seas partially an outdoor “cruise-in” cinema. It allows passengers to watch a blockbuster under the stars while in between of the Caribbean islands – or crossing the Atlantic.
-
Liberty of the Seas
Liberty of the Seas is part of the Freedom Class of Royal Caribbean. Its sister ships are Freedom of the Seas giving its name to this series of cruise ships, and Liberty was followed by Independence of the Seas. At its maiden voyage in 2007, Liberty of the Seas ranked high in the list of largest ships in the world with a length of 1112 feet. It can carry close to 5000 guests served by 1300 crew members.
-
Escape Rooms
In 2016, family-centered novelties were added to the ship during a thorough refurbishment. Amongst those was Escape room experience: “Observatorium” – a group puzzle at sea and Splash away bay kids water park. If you feel like more Escape Rooms, know St. Maarten’s boardwalk offers four!
-
Quite The Traveler
“Liberty” likes to travel. It has extensively visited the Caribbean, northern European routes as well as the Mediterranean. With that, it is one of the most traveled ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet.
