THE DAILY HERALD: ST MAARTEN AND RCE MAKE HISTORY BY LISTING MARITIME HERITAGE SITES ON MASS DATABASE
The Dutch cultural heritage organization RCE and St. Maarten Archaeological Center SIMARC have partnered to list three local sites on the Dutch maritime heritage database MaSS. These sites were chosen for their unique connection between maritime and cultural aspects on the island. The collaboration aims to support the ratification of the 2001 UNESCO Convention for the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage within the Dutch Kingdom. Efforts have been ongoing since 2020, involving stakeholders from the Dutch Caribbean, Suriname, and the Netherlands, with a focus on promoting and protecting these significant maritime heritage sites.
