Jonathan Berg Explores Island Hopping Once More
Over the past years, Jonathan Berg has explored the history of St. Maarten / St. Martin in depth through conversations with experts such as Minister of Education, Culture, Youth & Sports Melissa Gumbs, department head Clara Reyes, and archaeologist Jay Haviser. He has transformed these encounters into engaging blogs on his RoyalTourBlog. Additionally, a trip to Saba offered the German history writer a new perspective from hundreds of meters above sea level and explored food on behalf of the St. Maarten Flavors program.
During a recent visit to the archipelago as an artist-in-residence at Seaview, he continued his exploration of Statia, further embracing the island-hopping opportunities of the northeastern Caribbean with Winair. Leaving a history buff alone on “The Historic Gem” naturally resulted in new stories for his well-read history travel blog, written from the balcony of “Talk of the Town.”
Beyond diving deep into the events that shaped this popular day-trip destination from St. Maarten known for its “First Salute”, Berg also reflects on why the island remains largely undiscovered – although, he notes, the cocktails here somehow seem stronger.
