SXM PadlClub Hosts a Padel Event on St Maarten

FIRST SXM PADEL OPEN COMPETITION WAS HELD ON SUNDAY!

SXM Padle Club Hosted First SXM Padle Open Competition in Belair, St Maarten / St Martin

On Sunday, May 29th at 7:30 pm at the SXM Padel Club, the final match of the First SXM Padel Open for Advanced Players saw a battle between the team of Dimitri Celestina and Michael John Every both from Curacao, against Nicolas Jaume and Matthew Riffat of French St. Martin.  Matthew and Nicolas were the champions of the pre-qualifier tournament that took place earlier this year.

 

Earlier that evening in the 5:00 pm match, the Mr. Ignacio Jauregui (Sxm Padel Club principal) and Mr. Aldo Ricci of Sint Maarten clinched the third place of the tournament.

 

Since this past Thursday May 26th, 24 players divided into 12 doubles teams participated in this first Padel Tennis international event that brought players from France, Belgium, Martinique and Curacao to the shores of the island.

 

At the end of the competition, the team of Celestina/Every of Curacao succeeded as tournament Champions in 2 sets with the scores of 6-2 and 6-4.  

 

The winners received multiple prizes from the event sponsors including accommodation certificates at the Oyster Bay Beach Resort, certificates for Sunday Brunch at the Infinity Restaurant, cases of Heineken 0.0, padel bags from the SXM Padel Club pro shop.  The trophies for the winners were custom made by the team at Imagen Graphics.  In addition to the prizes the players were given complimentary drinks while playing courtesy of Coca Cola, Dasani and Powerade.  The St. Maarten Tourist Bureau also was one of the main sponsors of this yearly event promoting this new activity on the island.

 

 The weekend matches were very well attended by both locals and tourists.  SXM Padel Club thanks all the players, spectators and sponsors who assisted in making this event a raging success.  Ricardo Perez, one of the principals, said “we are very proud of the level of play demonstrated by the participants.  We are also very happy to have St. Maarten via SXM Padel Club helping to create a name for the island within the sport of Padel Tennis, the fastest growing sport in the world.”
