Participants runway walk on runway

Princess Walk Returns to St. Maarten Airport for Second Runway Event

The runway at St. Maarten Airport will once again host the Princess Walk on Sunday, October 18, 2026, as the airport joins the Elektralyets Foundation and the Positive Foundation for a community event during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The second edition of the Princess Walk will take place under the theme “Crown Yourself with Courage: Lace Up, Step Up, Check Up!” The event focuses on encouraging women in St. Maarten to pay attention to their health, make regular screenings a priority and understand the importance of early detection.

The Princess Walk returns to the runway

Participants will begin gathering at the St. Maarten Airport Terminal Building at 4:00 a.m. for registration and sign up. Transportation to the runway will start at 4:45 a.m., with the final bus scheduled to depart at 5:15 a.m. The walk itself is set to begin at 5:30 a.m.

Water and Johnny Cakes will be provided during the event.

Bringing the Princess Walk back to the airport gives the community an opportunity to gather in a setting that is normally associated with travel. For St. Maarten, the event combines a recognizable local location with an issue that affects individuals, families and communities across the island, while creating a public space for awareness and remembrance.

Awareness continues throughout October

The airport’s involvement will not be limited to the day of the walk. During October, the façade of St. Maarten Airport will be illuminated in pink as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities.

A pink ribbon will also be displayed at the airport in memory of women who have died from breast cancer and in recognition of survivors, people undergoing treatment and the families and loved ones supporting them.

The airport says the October initiatives are intended to encourage conversations about screening and early detection and to use its position within the community to support greater awareness.

T shirts raise funds for two foundations

Official Princess Walk T shirts are available for US$20, with proceeds benefiting the Elektralyets Foundation and the Positive Foundation. The funds will support their ongoing work in breast cancer awareness, education and early detection.

T shirts can be collected at the Meet and Greet area in the Arrival Hall at St. Maarten Airport on October 8, 10 and 15. Collection hours are 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on each of the three dates. Payment can be made by cash or card.

Anyone taking part in the walk must register in advance, with each participant required to complete an individual registration.

Menzies Aviation and Swiss Canonica are also supporting this year’s Princess Walk.

A community event with a message

The Princess Walk brings together several parts of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign, from the early morning runway walk to the pink lighting at the airport and fundraising for local organizations.

The event also gives participants an opportunity to show support for people affected by breast cancer and to remember those who have died from the disease. Its focus on screening and early detection places personal health at the center of the October activities.

The Positive Foundation, founded in 1998, works within the St. Maarten community to promote breast cancer awareness and encourage early detection through education, outreach and awareness initiatives.

Registration information for the Princess Walk is available through the St. Maarten Airport website, with further updates being shared through its social media channels.

The Princess Walk will take place on October 18, bringing participants together on the St. Maarten Airport runway during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
