Princess Juliana International Airport Runway Closure Following WestJet Aircraft Incident

Positive news from the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA), as they work on removing the WestJet aircraft that it still on the runway after yesterday’s incident. It is expected that the aircraft will be removed by 11.00 AM, and after SXM Civil Aviation will complete their runway inspection flight operations will resume.

 

The current closure is necessary to allow for a thorough investigation by the relevant civil aviation authorities and the safe removal of the aircraft from the runway. A recovery crew from WestJet arrived to carry out inspections and safely remove the aircraft from the runway.

 

PIJA is relieved to inform that out of the 164 souls on board, no injuries were reported. Passengers with upcoming flights are advised to contact their airline directly for the latest updates and assistance regarding their travel plans.
