Taste of St. Maarten

2010
06.28

Get ready for a fun-filled 4th of July weekend at the annual Taste of St. Maarten food fair in Simpson Bay. The event takes place from 11am until 7pm on Topper’s parking lot and the adjoining Kim Sha beach. This celebration of “food, music, fun and sun” is becoming quite a tradition and will be held for the third consecutive time this year. As always: entrance is free!

At least 18 island restaurants have already confirmed their attendance, and will be manning various stands at Taste of St. Maarten to showcase their cuisine with taste size portions.

Besides food, a live DJ will be on stage to enliven the atmosphere with music for young and old. Like last year, St.Maarten’s “Jolly Boys” will be performing traditional Caribbean music throughout the afternoon. There will be face painting, masks, and arts & crafts.

Worth noting is that this year’s Taste of St. Maarten is slated to become the island’s largest “plastic free” event this summer: with the support of the sponsoring companies, the island’s distributor of biodegradable disposables Good2Go is providing bio-plastic plates and containers, beverage cups, cutlery and napkins. These plastic-free disposables are made from annually renewable resources such as corn and other plants, are non-toxic to humans and the environment, and will quickly degrade into compost when thrown away.

Sour Grapes At Philipsburg Cultural Centre / St Maarten

2010
06.03

Starting this evening is show time for the cast of “Sour Grapes”. Actors are ready to wow the public and the play is tipped to be an unforgettable presentation. This theatrical production will use drama as the vehicle to tell a modern life story. “This is a play about a woman who owns a successful company. She is in the process of a merge and has hired an assistant. She ends up falling in love with him, but he is married. Although he is having some problems in his relationship, he knows that getting involved is morally wrong. This is more or less the story and you will see interesting scenes that happen in the office. The play is a drama.” That is how writer and director Peter Sagnia describes his new production.

His recent production will be presented by Kingdom Expressions, which is the arts subsidiary of Total Praise Ministry under Alicia M. Liverpool.

When asked where he gets inspiration for his work, Sagnia answered that anything around him; from stories he’s heard to TV programs and all he reads inspire him.

Performances will be on June 4/5 and 11/12 at Phillipsburg Cultural Centre. Today, Thursday, June 3, there will be a free entrance performance for kids, seniors and students.

Tickets cost $20 each and are available at Van Dorp, TPM, Divine
Store (St. Rose Arcade), Show begins at 8:00pm sharp.
