Born and raised in The Hague, Holland. I started my Hotel Management career in Swiserland. First job in Aruba as Assistant Manager moved to St-Maarten in 1966 and never left. Managed 4 Hotels in 40 years.
If I were on this island for 7 days I would spend my days:
Day 1: Relaxing on the beach by the hotel
Day 2: Racing on the 12 meter regatta, because it is unique and chosen the nr. 1 excursion for 10 years by the cruise ship association.
Day 3: Taking a tour around the island to get myself oriented. In the evening go for dinner on the French side
Day 4: Picnicking at the Mullet Bay beach and in the afternoon go for drinks at Sunset bar and watch the unique approach of the planes. Then on the other side of the beach eat a pizza.
Day 5: Reserved for a day trip to flat Island from 9 am until 5 pm.
Day 6: Go shopping in Philipsburg after checking that there are no cruise ships and have dinner on the board walk and watch the pretty woman pass by.Day 7: Get ready for departure. No activities.

Name: Valya Pantophlet |
I am pleased to introduce myself. My name is Valya Pantophlet and I am a Project Manager at the SHTA.I was born and raised on St. Maarten, but left for the Netherlands to pursue my studies in 2003, where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in International Hospitality & Business Management. I did my final internship at the SHTA in 2006 and was hooked ever since. I enjoy dining out and the occasional cosmopolitan with the girls. My hobbies are singing, swimming and working out.
I love St. Maarten because it’s the best of both worlds. You have the French side that’s mellow and rich in culture like other islands in the Caribbean and the bustling Dutch side which caters to those who enjoy an active lifestyle and nightlife, like me.
If I were on this island for 7 days I would spend my days:
Day 1: I would head straight over to Orient Beach also known as Nude Beach. Not only is it a nice calm beach, but there are tons of eateries alongside the beach and live music.
Day 2: Shopping in Marigot and visit the Lolos in Grand case for cheap great local food
Day 3: Friday Farewell tour on Eagle Tours. I did it for my 25th Birthday and it’s really the best way to see the island
Day 4: Go on a Historical tour: Visit the Forts, plantations, salt pains, museums etc. I think it’s important knowing the history of any destination I visit.
Day 5: Zip lining in Lottery farm. Scary but fun fun fun! Closest thing to an amusement park on St. Maarten! In the evening, I would look for the closest karaoke bar.
Day 6: Visit Anguilla and Prickly Pear. Sometimes it’s nice to get away to somewhere quiet, especially when living on metropolitan St. Maarten
Day 7: Spa day followed by a dinner Cruise with Aqua Mania adventures…very romantic, fun and well worth the money!
